POSITION SUMMARY:

In this position you are a trusted technical advisor who partners with customers to plan, design, and execute large-scale SQL Server migrations to Linux platforms. The role focuses on driving successful customer outcomes, accelerating cloud and platform modernization, and ensuring secure, highly available, and performance-optimized SQL workloads across hybrid and cloud environments.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:

Customer Architecture & Advisory

• Act as a trusted advisor for enterprise customers migrating SQL Server workloads to Linux
• Lead technical discussions with customer architects, DBAs, infrastructure, and application teams
• Translate business and technical requirements into migration architecture and execution guidance
• Provide design validation, best practices, and risk mitigation strategies

SQL on Linux Migration Architecture

• Lead end-to-end SQL Server on Linux migration engagements, including:
• Discovery and workload assessment
• Migration strategy selection (rehost, re-platform, modernize)
• Architecture design and readiness validation
• Define migration approaches for:
• SQL Server on Windows → SQL Server on Linux
• On-prem → Cloud / Hybrid Linux environments
• Design migration waves, cutover plans, rollback strategies, and success criteria

Cloud & Hybrid Enablement

• Architect SQL on Linux solutions in Azure and hybrid environments
• Advise customers on:
• SQL on Linux running on Azure Virtual Machines
• Hybrid scenarios using Azure Arc
• Partner with cloud teams to ensure:
• Secure networking, identity, and access design
• Cost optimization and performance efficiency
• Identify opportunities for modernization and expansion aligned to customer goals

Automation, DevOps & Modern Practices

• Automate deployment and migration workflows using:
• Bash / PowerShell
• Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, ARM, Bicep – preferred)
• CI/CD integration for database deployments
• Exposure to containerized SQL workloads (Docker on Linux)
• Monitoring and observability integration post-migration

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Postgraduate qualifications in enterprise architecture, cloud computing, or digital transformation are advantageous.
• Prior experience as Database Architect, Cloud Architect, or Migration Lead
• Strong Linux administration experience 
• Deep hands-on expertise with Microsoft SQL Server on Linux ( 2019 / 2022)

Preferred Certifications:

• Microsoft SQL Server / Azure certifications
• Linux administration certifications (RHCSA/RHCE – preferred)
